Etobicoke — The Ontario Liberal Party is pleased to announce Yvan Baker is seeking reelection as the Ontario Liberal candidate for Etobicoke Centre in the 2018 Ontario election.

Baker was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 2014 after a career in the private sector, most recently operating his own business as a management consultant to help Canadian companies grow and solve their strategic challenges. Previously Yvan worked at the Boston Consulting Group.

He currently serves as Parliamentary Assistant to Charles Sousa, Minister of Finance. Previously, Yvan served as Parliamentary Assistant to Deb Matthews, President of the Treasury Board from 2014-2016. He is also the co-chair of the 2018 Liberal Platform Engagement Committee.

“We've achieved a lot over the past three years, and I couldn't have done it without the support of my community,” Baker said. “When I was first elected, I promised to be accessible and to fight hard for this community. Together, we’ve improved health care, education and job creation in Etobicoke.”

Since becoming MPP, Baker has focused on results for Etobicoke Centre, helping Minister Sousa balance the budget for the first time since the recession. He is an outspoken advocate for consumer protection, convincing the province to ban unsolicited door-to-door sales and introducing the Stop the Calls Act to do the same for telemarketing. And working with his community, he saved Silver Creek School, protecting mental health and child care services for hundreds of children with special needs.

“Yvan is a tireless advocate for our community and it is a pleasure to work in unison with him,” said Borys Wrzesnewskyj, Etobicoke Centre’s federal Member of Parliament, “Whether it is a local issue such as the Eglinton LRT extension, or a major challenge such as saving Silver Creek School, Yvan is delivering results for the people of Etobicoke Centre.”

Wrzesnewskyj was just one of many members of the community who were out in full force at the Plast Huculak Centre Sunday to show their support for the candidate. Also in attendance were Minister Charles Sousa and former MPP Donna Cansfield.

In the lead up to the campaign, Baker will continue to fight to deliver the best value for money in government spending and advocate for improvements to health care and education that make Etobicoke and the province better places to live.

Yvan was raised in Etobicoke where he has lived for over 25 years. Prior to his election, Yvan also taught Master of Business Administration students at York University.
